Auditors Salary, Job Description and Skill Requirements 
Auditors are responsible for examining financial documents and business transactions, developing financial reports and determining whether tax-related information provided by a company is accurate. The role requires a thorough understanding of relevant tax laws, with auditors also responsible for ensuring that financial rules and regulations are adhered to and that adequate financial controls are in place.

Job responsibilities may vary based upon the auditor’s specialization, however some responsibilities might include internal auditing, public accounting, government accounting or administrative accounting.
In today’s business environment, the demand for experienced auditors is high with the latest Accounting and Finance salary forecasting likely increases for internal auditors of about 4 percent in 2017.

Employment Outlook and Salary 
Auditors work for both small and large companies, accounting firms, government agencies or freelance on a consultancy basis. The typical salary of an auditor in the US is $54,821 per year. Salaries vary from individual to individual depending on their efficiency, risk management skills, level of industry knowledge and work experience. An auditor in the UK can expect an average salary of around £28,145 with salary depending greatly on the amount of relevant experience and job specific knowledge.

According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment figures for auditors will rise about 11% by 2024. As the economy continues to grow, demand for experienced auditors will increase.

Job Description
An auditor is responsible for verifying the accuracy of business data. Information produced by an auditor must always be authentic and ethical and auditors must provide their professional opinion based on proficient evidence. 
Auditors should be pro-active, determined, good problem solvers, skilled communicators and able to work on a specific task for long periods of time. The role requires patience as auditors are required to accumulate many different types of information in order to verify the accuracy of records.

Key Activities Include:

  •  Gathering, examining and analyzing information
  • Studying business accounts within a financial management system
  • Judging levels of financial threat within a company
  • Examining financial statements and transaction records to determine veracity 
  • Making sure that all assets are secured
  • Identifying procedures that are not functioning properly and recommend actionable changes
  • Making statements on financial transaction records
  • Communicating with other administrative employees
  • Ensuring procedures, policies, legislation and regulations are adhered to
