The Selby Sleepers – Centrepoint Sleep Out 2011

Date: 01 November 2011

On 10th November the directors and MD of top financial recruitment company Selby Jennings will brave the harsh November weather conditions in an effort to raise money for homeless young people. Along with 650 other sleepers, employees from Selby Jennings will be camping out to help leading charity Centrepoint raise £250,000. Joining the team from Selby Jennings is a number of celebrities including Centrepoint Ambassador Sara Cox, DJ Scott Mills, former Tottenham, Hotspur midfielder David Ginola, Downton Abbey actor Brendan Coyle and Richard and Chloe Madeley.

“Although Selby Jennings supports many charities we feel particularly passionate about this as a lot of the work Centrepoint carry out is in London, our own capital city.” said Steve Yendell, Executive Director of Selby Jennings and fellow camper.

Centrepoint was established in 1969 and supports and campaigns for homeless young people. The majority of their work is based in London and to date they have helped more than 75,000 homeless young people. They do this by raising money to offer safe accommodation and services to help young people address the issues that led them to becoming homeless and offer a number of services such as counselling, accredited education programmes, life skill courses and opportunities to work.

Research commissioned by Centrepoint, carried out by the University of York and Herriot-Watt University, shows that in 2008 / 2009 (the most recent year for which figures are available) at least 78,000 – 80,000 young people experienced homelessness in the UK. This is the equivalent of 1 in every 100 young people.

The Selby Sleepers help to raise at least £5,000 for the charity.
