Medical Account Managers primarily deal with prospective and existing accounts and are responsible for meeting sales quotas of medical services and products. Other common responsibilities for the role include securing new contracts from existing clients, working on various promotional programs, generating new leads and securing new contracts or accounts from hospitals, medical centers and clinics. Job Description
Medical Account Managers primarily manage relationships with clients and potential customers and work closely with marketing and sales teams in order to communicate key initiatives and identify market needs and trends. They develop and implement marketing and sales programs for health care services to increase market share, create brand loyalty, drive growth and continually achieve sales goals. 
Medical account managers should be able to make appropriate and targeted pitches to clients, advise and recommend service and supply solutions, and understand customer requirements. 

Job activities of an Account Manager might include:

  • Building and maintaining long-lasting, strong client relationships, developing new business with existing and potential clients
  • Developing reliable advisor relationships with stakeholders, key accounts, and executive sponsors 
  • Clearly communicating information to both external and internal stakeholders 
  • Ensuring the successful and timely delivery of solutions according to customer requirements
  • Tracking and forecasting key account metrics 
  • Collaboration with sales and marketing teams to identify and exploit opportunities 

Key Skills & Qualifications
Account Managers must have adequate knowledge of how medical organizations operate, such as hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic centers. They also should have knowledge about product categories such as vaccines and pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, medical equipment, medical-surgical supplies, and other related services. A thorough understanding of medical trends, markets, key manufacturers and competitions is also essential. 

A Medical Account Manager should have prior experience in the field, as well as a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and also:

  • Strong consultative and strategic selling skills
  • Direct selling skills and experience of medical industry solutions and devices
  • Relationship management, problem solving, and strategy development
  • Demonstrably strong written and oral communication skills 
  • Knowledge of CRM systems 
  • Experience working with medicine and pharmaceutical industry clients, alongside strong knowledge of medical or healthcare markets 
  • Previous experience successfully implementing healthcare campaigns 
  • Skilled in preparing tenders and communication campaigns
  • Analytical skills and strategic approach
  • Ability to work under pressure
