Are You Generation Z?

The generation following Millennials, Generation Z, is also known as  Gen Tech, Gen Wii, Net Gen, Digital Natives, and Plurals. The demographic is defined as those born from the mid-90s to the early 2000s. They’re born digital, have higher expectations than Millennials, and are more entrepreneurial. 

Just when many businesses thought they were starting to “get” Millennials, Generation Z arrived on the scene. They’re young, they’re hungry, and they’re completely different from the generations before them.

Generation Z is here and ready to claim the spotlight. 

Incredibly I’ve seen them written off as lazy, entitled and constantly on the lookout for the next best opportunity. But here’s the thing. I’m a Learning and Development Consultant for a Recruitment company where a vast portion of employees fall into this bracket. And I can assure you, that’s not my experience of Gen Z.

Part of my role at Phaidon International is to consider the generational effects on training and development. The love affair between Generation Z and social media means that Gen Zs are more comfortable in the public eye. They value immediate feedback and recognition.

Phaidon International’s training involves keeps ‘classroom time’ to a minimum. The majority of learning is done on the job where instant feedback is given to prepare you to deal with complex situations you’ll face on a daily basis.

New consultants are assigned a mentor when they start, providing the opportunity to benefit from experience and insight. Gen Zs’ need for recognition ensures that complacency doesn’t creep in.

Health & Happiness Are Key

Generation Z works hard, but they also really take pride in looking after themselves. We understand that a happy and healthy workforce is a productive one. So as part of this objective, we run “Wellness Weeks”.

Not only can you enjoy activities like yoga sessions, but you’ll also receive nutritional and financial advice. These weeks are highly embraced by our employees and also help build an authentic level of trust. We find our teams show a greater commitment when they connect with and find purpose in what they’re doing.

Phaidon International is looking to double our team in size to 1000 by 2020. This means that the next generation of employees, our Gen Zs, are vital to our vision and there’s a huge opportunity to progress here.
