AVP, Product Controller -  OTC Derivatives

Leading Fintech firm and subsidiary Hedge Fund has recently completed an internal reorganization in the Middle Office, and is now looking to expand the product control team with mid-level hires.

The team covers all product control responsibilities, including p&l/balance sheet management, but also handles monthly pricing and valuations. Product coverage spans OTC derivatives across equities, credit, rates, fx etc.

Ideal candidates would come from derivative pricing/product control backgrounds at hedge funds, top investment banks, or fund administrators, and have an analytical mindset with strong product and market knowledge. Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team, as well as with internal and external counterparties is an absolute necessity.

Responsibilities:
  • Monthly and quarterly close involving trade reconciliation, independent price verification etc.
  • Monitor trading activity for valuation of derivatives portfolio
  • Perform daily and weekly p&l substantiation through a risk-based explain
  • Analysis and explanation of the daily balance sheet, p&l preparation, and reporting
  • Document procedures and explain results of adjustments in addition to reconciling and booking adjustments to the general ledger
  • Performing test cycles for system upgrades and change initiatives
  • Assist in the forecast and CCAR process
  • Review current processes and controls to identify weaknesses and propose improvements
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures manual
  • Work closely with various internal departments to resolve issues
  • Liaise with vendors and external counterparties on regulatory/audit matters, and escalate to senior management where necessary
  • Ad-hoc special projects and initiatives as required
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field
  • Advanced degree (MBA, MFE, MS) and certifications are a plus
  • 3-6 years in a product control/derivative pricing/valuations control function within financial services
  • Experience with OTC derivatives, cross-asset knowledge highly preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, with a proven ability to problem-solve and work with counterparties
  • Strong organization and project-management skills
  • Proficient in Excel and VBA - macros etc.
