Computational Scientist Needed for Growing Biotech Company

A growing biotech company is looking for a Computational Scientist that can support the design and analysis of new genotypes with improved capability in tissue transplantation. The Computational Scientist will a member of the computational biology team and will lead a small team of Computational Biologists. The company prefers for organic growth so there is no ceiling for career progression. This is strictly an expansion hire; it is something that will be tailored to the right candidate and reports directly to the Director of Bioinformatics. The Computational Scientist will have responsibilities that include:

  • Developing computational programs and scripts for the bioinformatics aspect of the organization.
  • Developing, maintaining, and execution of NGS algorithms & pipelines
  • Analysing gene editing experiments using next generation sequencing
  • Performing genomic and transcriptomic analysis using high throughput technologies
  • Evaluate and implement state-of-art methodologies for NGS and transcriptomic data analyses with R/Bioconductor modules
  • Assisting CRISPR gRNA design for single and multiple targets
  • Performing genome-wide CRISPR screening library analysis
  • Perform integrative, pathway, and network analyses to understand disease mechanisms, determine clinical relevance, and for the discovery of biomarkers and important drug targets.
  • Providing guidance on experimental design and interpretation of biological data

The ideal candidate will have the following skill set:

  • Ph.D. degree or equivalent from an accredited institution in biological, statistical, computational, or other quantitative science.
  • ~3 years of laboratory experience in academia or industry after Ph.D. training
  • Fluent in multiple programming languages (R, Java, SAS) and bioinformatic applications
  • proven scientific productivity as evidenced by a strong publication record in top tier journals.
  • Experience in solving biological problems using a computational approach (general disease/pharmaceutical application knowledge)
  • Great communication and team working skills with ability to think independently
