A leading multi-strategy hedge fund based in New York City is looking to hire a Director of Software Development to help oversee a small 6-man team of Data Scientists and Software Engineers who will be mandated with producing research, risk and reporting systems and integrations across the business. My client has ambitious plans to continue maximizing its returns for investors hence why they are revamping their technology group and looking for an experienced hands-on leader who has a proven track record in continuously improving procedures and processes in a high-performance, fast-paced trading environment. As a Director and thought leader, you will be expected to stay ahead of the curve on emerging technologies and then be able to engage with firm leadership to identify, plan, and prioritize development efforts. You will lead successful execution of development projects across enterprise programming languages such Java, Python and additional applications such Excel, VBA and SQL. The ideal candidate will have knowledge across an array of asset classes as you will be expected to offer best-in-class solutions across all of the firms trading groups.
 
Key responsibilities of Director of Software Development:
  • Play a hands-on role in recruiting and managing a small team of Data Scientists and Software Engineers
  • Oversee research, risk and reporting systems and integrations across the business
  • Stay in touch with emerging technologies and offer guidance to firm management on identifying new development efforts across the business, across different trading groups
  • Continue to code on a daily basis as well oversee all code reviews as well
  • Work with third-party vendors
 
Key skills for Director of Software Development:
  • 5+ years experience in Java enterprise programming
  • Expertise in scripting, ideally in Python
  • Knowledge of SQL and additional databases
  • Expert knowledge of Excel/VBA
  • Familiarity with multiple asset classes. Equities, FX, Fixed Income, Options, Futures, Commodities etc.
  • Ideally worked in high-performance trading teams on the buy-side or at least Front Office groups at a leading Investment Bank
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication
  • Positive and pro-active attitude
