A large engineering firm based in Toronto has an immediate, full-time job opening for a Building Code and Fire Protection Consultant. They are an authoritative building code, fire protection, forensic, and specialty engineering consulting firm. Their successful track record includes providing life safety and fire protection engineering services for over 30 years, including industry-leading services on local, national, and international projects. 

Fire protection engineer responsibilities 

  • The successful applicant will coordinate
  • Conduct building plan reviews 
  • Interpret the building code
  • Develop alternative solutions
  • Prepare building design reports 
  • Coordinate with fire protection engineering teams
  • Review and implementation of fire protection strategies
  • Coordinate on all matters with the design team and authorities having jurisdiction
Fire protection engineer requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (preferred Fire Protection Engineering) or equivalent
  • Diploma in Architectural or Fire Protection Engineering Technology with a minimum of 2 years of experience working as a building code consultant or in a related field
  • Knowledge of Ontario or National Building and Fire Codes
  • Experience with Part 4 of the Ontario Fire Code. Specific experience in compliance requirements for flammable liquids and dangerous goods would be an asset
  • An understanding of fire protection engineering principles
  • The ability to work well independently and to interact with other industry professionals, associated trades, and industry authorities
  • Experience in developing building code concepts and equivalencies, conducting building plan reviews, and field reviews would be an asset
