A biotech focusing in ophthalmologic drugs is currently looking to extend their medical affairs team with the addition of a Medical Director. Millions of people each year suffer from blindness or eye irritation causing server discomfort and disability in their daily life, how would you feel knowing you are helping these people?

Company and medical director profile
So far the company is only 150 people strong with two offices, one in Germany and the other in the US. The role of medical director is to spend 80 – 90% of your time in the office developing the strategy and planning but also spending 10 / 20% meeting other experts and stakeholders.

The Medical Director will have the following responsibilities:
The Medical Director will play a pivotal part for the company’s expansion as they have received very good phase II results and need support on their already marketed products. They will serve as a figurehead for the company and provide strong leadership.
  • Building strategy across the medical board and liaising between the V and C levels and ensuring the planning is well communicated to the medical managers, advisors and Liaisons in the field.
  • Document and record all interactions with stakeholder
  • Collaborating with other medical teams in order to ensure the safety of patients in clinical development (10%) and using this data to support medical/commercial teams about the products
  • Managing CRO and third party vendors by developing working relationships
  • Providing managed care for patients with pre-existing and long term illnesses
  • Providing health maintenance visits

The ideal candidate will have the following skill set:
  • Experience in clinical research leadership and management a huge plus
  • Extensive experience within the industry as a medical director
  • Experience with ophthalmology  products is preferred not essential
  • Must have a MD or equivalent
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, German highly preferred but not essential
The medical director’s ophthalmology package will include:
  • A very competitive package, between 150,000 – 200,000 euroes to be offered but  salary open to negotiation dependant on experience
  • 30 days of vacation
  • Travel expenses will be covered plus company car plus car allowance
  • Pension, health insurance etc
  • Other areas which are important to candidate can be discussed (Relocation, special diet)
