Preconstruction Manager


The primary functions of this position include providing the overall planning, implementation and direction to ensure maximum results are achieved for all Company preconstruction initiatives. The position involves interacting and partnering with construction professionals at various levels and functions within the industry which necessitates strong interpersonal skills. The ability to effectively evaluate, interpret and offer possible options and solutions to a wide variety of plans, specifications and proposal formats is a critical component of the position requiring a strong analytical background. Some travel is required.


Include but not limited to:

1. Identify what internal and external resources are necessary to effectively lead all preconstruction initiatives.

2. Review all budgeting, scheduling, plans and specification requirements as well as various constructability means and methods options. Define roles and responsibilities of potential team members, all to ensure key aspects of the project preconstruction requirements are addressed properly and in the most creative manner possible.

3. Be a key contributor in development of standards, processes, practices, etc. as required to maximize the Company's preconstruction abilities.

4. Effectively utilize estimating and design resources to oversee the preparation of any conceptual, schematic, design development and/or GMP estimates as required to support the preconstruction process, and until such time a final GMP is agreed upon and work begins.

5. Be present at all meetings with other key project participants to ensure problems are resolved and the proper degree of coordination is occurring to achieve the desired outcomes.

6. Coordinate and oversee the preparation of all information and project-specific documents for submission to the client.

7. Finalise the GMP and contract with the client. While meeting the clients needs, ensure all documents accurately reflect the profitability requirements of the Company and are in accordance with the agreed upon previously negotiated contract terms and conditions.

8. When appropriate, provide the necessary input relative to the buyout process.

9. Attend meetings with potential clients and continually develop relationships that may result in future opportunities.

10. Take a leadership role in appropriate industry-related association activities.

11. Provide the necessary reports, schedules and other information to document the performance and effectiveness of the Company's Preconstruction Services.

12. Be a key supporter of the Company's strategic planning initiatives and actively participate in on-going activities to help ensure desired goals are achieved.

13. Provide effective leadership to all assigned staff and ensure all aspects of the Company's Human Resource policies and procedures are followed accordingly.

14. Other responsibilities as assigned.


This position requires a B.S. in Construction Technology, Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or similar discipline and 4 years of related experience in Eclectic Utility, Transmission & Distribution. A professional license and registration are preferred. The position requires excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, that exemplify confidence, trust and success as well as demonstrated skills in the estimating, scheduling, marketing, and project management arenas.
