My clients Houston office is seeking a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to play an active role in the management and design of projects. This position will work closely with leading architects and building owners developing innovative, performance-based design solutions for a wide range of building, industrial and transport projects. This position will also work with the local office leadership on business development activities focused on the growth of my clients consulting offering in Texas and beyond. 

Fire Protection Engineer skills & qualifications: 
  • Experience in code consulting, computer modeling, risk management, fire alarm, sprinkler and smoke control system design 
  • Additional experience in developing performance based strategies in a project design environment. 
  • FPE degree or engineering degree (mechanical, electrical, chemical) with fire protection engineering industry experience welcome. 
  • Be able to manage multiple projects immediately, including developing proposals, project planning, staffing, monitoring and successful delivering of projects. 
  • Developing client relationships and pursuing new business opportunities. 
  • Must have experience with ICC (IBC, IFC) model building codes and NFPA 13, 72, etc. 
Desired skills & qualifications 
  • 6-10 years of experience in fire protection engineering. 
  • Bachelors or Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field. 
  • PE in fire protection engineering, or eligibility to obtain in 2016. 
  • Project experience in a broad range of markets that might include rail, aviation, education, healthcare, high-rise, museums, performing arts, and science & industry.
  • Possess good communication skills essential for team-based working 
  • Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment 
  • Must be highly motivated, proactive and willing to take on new challenges. 
  • Desire to assist Arup in expanding our offering in Houston and other Texas cities 
Candidate will ideally have experience in a number of the following skill sets: 
  • Building and Fire Codes applicable in the State of Texas 
  • CFD modeling (FDS, Fluent) 
  • Smoke control design 
  • Fire alarm design 
  • Egress modeling 
  • Structural fire analysis 
  • Sprinkler design
