This is an opportunity for a senior fire engineer based in their London office, a role in which you will take the lead in managing exciting and challenging projects and to assist in the development of their bright and enthusiastic engineers and graduates.

Senior Fire Safety Engineer Role

In this role you will manage your own projects and junior engineers while being supported by the wider team. This will involve interactive and collaborative working with their fire engineers and with colleagues throughout their multidisciplinary teams. You’ll be given the opportunity to travel regularly to their 9 UK offices or further afield as projects require. The projects will be diverse, exciting and range from conceptual fire strategy development through to handing over landmark projects in the built environment.

Experience in the principles of smoke control and means of escape are essential and knowledge of the various design codes, standards and guidance associated with the industry is also important.

Senior Fire Safety Engineer, Essential Requirements

  • Degree in fire engineering or another relevant degree/equivalent qualification;
  • Typically around 5–10 years’ experience in a consultancy or similar environment as a fire safety engineer.
  • Extensive experience in delivering fire engineered solutions for UK based projects, particularly in London;
  • Be aware of appropriate legislation and design guidance for use in the UK;
  • Clearly understand the total fire concept: from the client brief through to construction and operation;
  • Manage others in the development and implementation of fire strategies, projects, and research initiatives;
  • Possess excellent report writing and communication skills, be collaborative, be creative and engaging;
  • Have the ability to work on multiple projects concurrently, working to tight deadlines managing multiple priorities;
  • Understand and manage the scope and relevant programme constraints of projects.
Senior Fire Safety Engineer, Desired Requirements

  • Post graduate qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. MSc, PhD);
  • Rail/tunnel ventilation experience;
  • Structural fire engineering experience;
  • Active systems knowledge;
  • Experience on site and the handover of large projects;
  • Chartered Engineer or approaching achieving Chartered Engineer status;
  • Knowledge codes other than those in the UK (e.g. NFPA, IBC);
  • Project experience in the Middle East;
  • Manage financial performance on projects;
  • Responsible for fee proposals, undertake business development activities and establishing a network of clients/ colleagues in Arup, and outside Arup;
  • An existing portfolio of clients / contacts in the industry.
