Industry leading automotive distributor is looking to add a Senior Purchasing & Inventory Manager to their supply chain team to lead all inventory management functions as well as strategize, forecast and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure inventory goals and performance metrics are met.

The Senior Purchasing & Inventory Manager's responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Develop overall inventory plan strategy and other performance metrics ensuring goals are met.

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain team to develop customer centric metrics

  • Coordinate team staffing and development programs with Human Resources.

  • Support new business development opportunities.

  • Collaborate with DC Operations, Supply Chain Solutions, Supplier Relations and Transportation teams to align goals and strategy with forecasted inventory requirements.

  • Assure effective inventory management execution

  • Maintain supplier collaboration meetings and regular supplier communication processes.

  • Develop high level supplier operations plan and implement corrective action where performance is not being met

  • Recommend and execution of seasonal, downstream and strategic buys designed to enhance margin and/or protect availability.

  • Ensure timely and effective communications with Regional DC Managers on supplier issues and initiatives.

  • Formulate overall forecasting and replenishment strategies.

  • Develop strategies for slow moving and obsolete inventory disposition

  • Determine staffing needs, interview potential candidates, and make recommendations on individual hires.

  • Monitor performance, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend appropriate action such as compensation changes, promotions, counseling and termination.

  • Motivate, coach, train, counsel and provide career development for each team member.

  • Foster environment of continuous improvement with focus on efficiency gains and cost savings.

The Senior Purchasing/ Inventory Manager will possess the following qualities:

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Inventory Management, Purchasing, Operations, or Business or related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a purchasing and replenishment role required.

  • Expert level knowledge of operations.

  • Ability to work as a team player towards mutual goals.

  • Experience in a multi-warehouse national distribution network.

  • Deep understanding and hands-on experience in the following areas: MRP, DRP, S & OP Processes, Forecasting, Production/Inventory Planning and Scheduling, Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI).

  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication.

  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and Access at intermediate level, advanced preferred.

  • Proven ability to manage a high functioning team and achieve results.
