International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for communities and organizations around the world to raise awareness about accelerating gender parity. Each year on March 8th we celebrate International Women’s Day, focusing on the ideas of unity, reflection, advocacy, and action. Here at Phaidon International, we take this day to recognize the impact that women have made in our professional careers and in our personal lives. Members of the Phaidon Family have shared their stories of what International Women’s Day means to them.
Your name, position, how long have you been at Phaidon?
My name is Rebecca Topper and I’m a Managing Principal in Procurement. I have been at Phaidon for four years!
What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
Every day is International Women’s Day! But, in an industry that has been described as a “boys club” in the past, I am so inspired to see that some of the top leaders and billers in the business are women. This day is a reminder to celebrate women who strive to achieve more and promote inclusivity.
Who are the female role models in your life and career?
My mom took out student loans throughout her entire medical school education and is now one of the top dermatologists in South Florida. She is never too proud to learn and create something new or to better herself. Through her experiences creating her own cosmetics line and being a regular consultant to major skin care companies across the country, she is a huge motivator for me to continue succeeding and growing my business within Phaidon!
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is #Balanceforbetter. What do you think companies can do to create a better gender balance?
Phaidon does an incredible job in keeping a meritocratic system while fostering an environment where women feel empowered. Companies could learn from our system – and when I look around the office today, I see gender equality in the fact that pretty much half of the office are women! #WomenInSales
